Celebrated chef Ken Oringer is planning a fifth Boston restaurant.

Coppa, a 40-seat enoteca serving Italian small plates and wood-oven pizza, is expected to open by the end of August with additional outside patio seating. The owner of Clio, Uni, Toro, KO Prime and La Verdad is taking over the South End space on Shawmut Avenue formerly occupied by The Dish.

Oringer is partnering with Toro chef Jamie Bissonnette on the new venture. He appeared before the Eight Streets Neighborhood Association on Wednesday to get its blessing before applying for a liquor license transfer. Oringer also filed papers with the state on Monday to set up a new company, Verveine Corp., to operate the eatery.

An American comfort food restaurant, The Dish closed in January.

“We’re excited for something to be open there,” said John McLachlan, president of the neighborhood association. “We don’t like empty storefronts.”

A New Jersey native who got his start at David Burke’s River Cafe in New York, Oringer opened his first Boston restaurant, Clio, in the Eliot Hotel in 1997. He was the winner of the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef of the Northeast Award in 2001.
