Met Prime seeking approval for Newbury Street location

S. End awaits Met eatery

A sister restaurant to the Metropolitan Club in Chestnut Hill and Natick’s Met Bar & Grill is coming to Boston’s Back Bay.

Restaurateur Kathy Sidell Trustman is seeking city approval to open Met Prime at 277 Dartmouth St., after Joe’s American Bar & Grill vacates the space in March.

Sidell Trustman did not return calls for comment. But building landlord Gary Simon of Copley Investments said Met Prime would occupy the same footprint as Joe’s, which is moving from its 25-year location to a larger space at Newbury and Exeter streets.

In 2005, the Metropolitan Club bowed in as a “modern” steakhouse, followed by the more casual Met Bar at the Natick Collection in 2007.

Sidell Trustman’s new restaurant will put her in direct competition with her sister, Stephanie Sokolove, who has operated Stephanie’s on Newbury for 15 years.

Both are the daughters of the late Jack Sidell, the former U.S. Trust CEO who bankrolled many local star chefs and restaurant chains, from Lydia Shire, Gordon Hamersley, Jasper White and Todd English to Au Bon Pain and Bertucci’s.
