NYPD says neigh to Hub horses

The good news is, there’s no danger any former Boston police steeds will be patrolling Yankee Stadium any time soon.
The NYPD spit the bit on adopting five horses from the BPD’s disbanded mounted unit.
“They ultimately decided against it,” said BPD spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll.
Three of the Big Apple-bound horses are now going to Florida police departments, and another was returned to its original owner.
Five other horses already were sent to the Plymouth Sheriff’s Department and two others were returned to owners.
The last horse may go to Arlington National Cemetery, where the Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as The Old Guard, may enlist the steed for military funeral duty.
The NYPD rejected the BPD’s offer to “loan” the horses on the condition it could get them back if the unit was revived because, “We needed more predictability than that,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.
He said the NYPD is no longer accepting donated horses and will instead buy them to maintain “uniform standards” of age and size.
But a City Hall source said the NYPD nixed the deal because Boston police sources leaked the horse story to the Herald before the deal was sealed, and the “people in New York were not pleased.”
