Time to dig those skates out of the closet! The Boston Common Frog Pond skating rink is opening on Sunday.

An opening ceremony is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be emceed by Dan Weinstein, an Olympic speed skating champion and NBC-TV Olympic speed skating commentator, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department announced.

The event is being held to celebrate a new partnership between the department and the Skating Club of Boston, which has been named manager and operator of the Frog Pond.

The event will offer performances from a number of award-winning skaters and admission will be free, though skate rentals will be offered at the regular price, the statement said.

The event had been slated for Thursday, but the parks department issued a release late this afternoon, saying the opening had been postponed to Sunday due to the unusually warm weather.

Temperatures reached 63 degrees today in Boston. By Sunday, the high will be 42, while the Sunday night low will be near 33, the National Weather Service predicted.

Schedules, events, program offerings and updates are available by calling the Frog Pond at 617-635-2120 or going to bostonfrogpond.com.
