Skaters, sharpen those blades. The Boston Common Frog Pond skating rink is opening in mid-November, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department announced today.
An opening ceremony is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 and will be emceed by Dan Weinstein, an Olympic speed skating champion and NBC-TV Olympic speed skating commentator, the department said in a statement.
The event is being held to celebrate a new partnership between the Parks and Recreation Department and the Skating Club of Boston, which has been named manager and operator of the Frog Pond, said the statement. “The rink will open for the 2010-2011 season with a world class skating show.”
The event will offer performances from a number of award-winning skaters and admission will be free, though skate rentals will be offered at regular price, the statement said.
Schedules, events, program offerings and updates are available by calling the Frog Pond at 617-635-2120 or going to bostonfrogpond.com.
